DP Series #2 - Race Roundup

Dana Point, California

It's a beautiful day is more than a U2 rock song, it is a way to describe DPYC's perfect setting for DP Series #2. Racers had flat water and a building breeze to battle a big down coast current and loads of kelp "reef jerky" that was littering the race course. Racing was tight at all the marks with few passing lanes, so speed and sail handling around the marks was critical.
I raced on B&B Dougherty's J-105 "Legacy" that comes down from Newport to race the DP Series. Our race went great, however the results did not reflect how much fun and speed Legacy had. We finished 4th in class and 7th overall. We started at the pin end (not favoured) and rounded the first mark in 7th or 8th place. The rest of the race we poured on the speed and finished first across the line ahead of the slower handicapped class "B" boats.
Race #3 & #4 are next weekend, stay posted for reports here!
