2010 Cal Cup: Sleds & 52's Final

Marina Del Rey, CA

The morning started off great with a breakfast sponsored by Ullman Sails for the 70' Sled and i52 owners. The 70' Sled fleet plans racing for the rest of the year and next year at the Cal Cup breakfast. The 70' Sled fleet will be at some major races next year and have the TransPac as the high-point of the 2011 racing schedule!
As crews prepared the boats for some heavy wind sailing, the race committee put the racers on notice that the winds were already clocking over 25 knots with higher gusts and the waves were twice as high as the previous day and the races were in question. In the end, the strong wind and the stronger waves won the Sunday event. The RC abandoned the races for Sunday due to the conditions.Brack Duker sailing his blue SC-70 "Holua" won the Cal Cup for the 6th time! Dave Ullman was very happy to be the winning tactician (again). The i52 fleet (formally know as the SoCal TP-52 fleet) had their West Coast Champion, Jim Madden sailing his blue i52 "Stark Raving Mad" to first place in the shortened weekend of racing.
Look for the 70' Sled fleet and the i52 fleet at the Ullman Sails Long Beach Race Week on June 25-27.
