Team "WTF" report from Melges 24 Nationals

Congratulations ‘WTF’! Alan Field and his California based crew traveled across the country to Newport, RI for the Melges 24 Nationals. They traveled home as the newest Melges 24 National Champions. During the two days of racing the team proved once again that consistent sailing wins regattas. In light shifty conditions, the team posted a 2-6-2-1-3-4 and dropped the 6 to win the regatta by two points. “WTF” trailed JC Raby’s, ‘Evil Donut’, after day one and passed Raby on day two with solid finishes in tricky conditions. The third day was canceled due to lack of visibility. The fleet gathered at a channel marker for 3 hours waiting for the fog to lift. Finally after a long wait in near zero visibility, the race committee was forced to pull the plug and send the fleet in. The standings after Day two stood and Field and his team had on the win.

Alan and his team of Steve Hunt, Erik Shampain, Jeff Reynolds, and Sarah Curren are on a roll having just come off back to back wins at the Gulf Coast Championships in Corpus Christi and the Detroit NOOD. In addition to a crew that has sailed together consistently for 3 years together the team benefits from flying a complete Inventory of Ullman Sails. Field and company used the ‘Shark’ main, 2010 AP jib, and the new AP+ spinnaker design to fly around the course.
