Around Catalina Island Race | Ullman Sails Race Report

John Seitz Ullman powered C&C 121 First Overall!
It is not over until it is over.  That was the tone of this years Around Catalina Island Race hosted by CBYC and DPYC respectively.  Sailing around Catalina Island can be an arduous task but this year the frustration, for some, did not set in until the final five miles.

Frustration for some means excitement for others as the back of the fleet brought in breeze and boat speed to pass the leaders during the final push to the finish.  John Seitz and his crew on the C &C 121 Anasazi took full advantage of the situation and took top honors.  The Ullman powered boat had a great crossing to Catalina and stayed in the game with good crew work and proper sail selection.  Kenny Cooper, Ullman Sails Newport Beach, was on board to round out the crew and his experience in this race helped push them to victory.

SC-50 Horizon
Horizon and Timeshaver were in a battle as they headed south, only to be passed in the final 4 miles as they struggled to overcome the light breeze.  Horizon had jumped to a big lead on the channel crossing but the J-125 Timeshaver was playing catch up as the breeze built in their favor.

In PHRF Class C, Don Skirdlant & David Zaveski's Schock Wave played a similar game as they passed the Olson 30 Grey Goose towards the finish.  Both carry Ullman Sails!.

The cruising class had an enjoyable trip down the coast with Jim Treydte's Sugar Lips using their Ullman Sails 155% Carbon Genoa to power to victory.  They also flew their Ullman Redline Symmetrical Spinnaker down the coast to the finish!

Ullman Sails powered boats took top honors in 3 out of 5 classes!  Great race and full results can be found HERE!
