California Yacht Club hosted the 2016 J-70 Midwinter Championship for the West Coast this past weekend and eight of the popular little sport boats showed up to vie for the title. The J-70 fleet has become uber competitive with the top professionals in the country being flown in to race on various boats. This makes fleet that much more compelling to race in.
USA 32 was featured on the course and was using a full set of
J-70 Ullman Sails including a brand new jib design. The regatta was tight all the way through as Chris Raab's "Sugoi" and USA 32 battled it out at the front of the fleet. The shifty conditions allowed for some passing lanes and lead changes and positions were frequently changing. USA 32 sailed the more consistent regatta and ended up with a healthy 5 point lead over the second place Sugoi.
