A CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON THE WAY TO THE FARR 30 WORLDS

Last weekend, Ullman Sails customer Bill Markel and his team on Farr 30 “Standard Deviation” not only sealed the Youngstown Level Regatta win, but also claimed the 2011 Great Lakes Championships in the process! Fully powered by Ullman Sails inventory, “Standard Deviation” finished on top of the podium with two bullets in a total of six races.  The 2011 Great Lakes title is most definitely an honor, but the last weekend’s regatta was part of a bigger program – preparation for the 2011 Farr 30 World Championships this September in San Francisco.  Markel’s team of seven (which includes Ullman Sails Cleveland’s Greg Koski onboard as tactician) has been working hard to prepare for the Worlds event, using several events to tune the boat and crew.  Ullman Sails has also been working closely with the team to optimize the boat and sail inventory.  The team now has one more month before pre-Worlds training on San Francisco Bay starts.  Bill comments on the “Standard Deviation” preparation so far:
“The boat is doing the Farr 30 Worlds this year and has been using this event and Block Island Race Week as pre-World events to tune up for the Worlds. At this event under Greg Koski’s guidance the boat exhibited great boat speed and was starting to reach its potential. For the final event before the Worlds, it was a great confidence builder leading into an event that will see some of the best sailors in the world participating. The crew is looking forward to the Worlds.”
