Regata Copa Mexico Update (MEXORC)



Off Shore Class ready for the 
Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012


· The Off Shore Class Warm Up for the Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012 took place on November 26th and 27th at the Acapulo Yatch Club.
· The courses were modified according to the scheme that will be held at Riviera Nayarit in 2012.

Acapulco, Guerrero, November 27th, 2011.- During November 26th and 27th, the boats and crews that race on MEXORC, practiced for Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012 at the Acapulco Yacht Club.
Ernesto Amtmann, Chairman of the Organizing Commitee of Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012, who is also Chairman of the MEXORC 2012, said “to really turn this competition in to a warm up for Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012 the circuits of the competition had to be modified in one short and one long course with the objective to have the same kind of races as in Regatta Copa Mexico”.
“The Off Shore teams have been training for Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012, this is the last important race of the class before Copa Mexico, so now the teams will have time to repair their boats and prepare them for the competition”, added Mr. Amtmann.
The Off Shore sailboats are special competition boats of different sizes and designs, ranging from 14 to 30 meters long, with an average of 15 crewmembers each. On Saturday and Sunday, 22 ships participated in the race, in which the following boats took the honors:
A CLASS
1. Flojito y Cooperando
2. Patches
3. French Kiss
B CLASS
1. Iemanja
2. Bandido
3. Veloce II

On Saturday evening, the winners of the last six months of competition received their trophies. Pablo Fernández, Public Relations and Media Officer of Regatta Copa Mexico, helmsman of the boat Iemanja, whose captain is Mr. Jorge Escalante, said "The wind conditions were favorable for the development of the race. It was very difficult to overtake the other boats, but we achieved the goal thanks to great crew work”.D
During the Off Shore Class Warm Up for the Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition 2012 a meeting was held to disscuss “The Mazatlán Challenge”. Details of the event, were stated, which consisted in a competition with a boat to boat format, team racing and fleet racing, that will take place in that port in near future.

The Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic edition 2012 will take place from March 2nd to March 18th, 2012 at Bahia de Banderas, which is the main tourist venue of Riviera Nayarit, a leading destination in nautical activities in Mexico. It is expected to receive compeitors from all over the world and a 30% more affluence than in 2010.

The races of Regatta Copa México, Olympic Edition 2012, will be held in different courses, with distances proper to each class. The seven categories will be: Oceanic, J24, Laser, 420, Kitesurf, Windsurf and Optimist.

Regatta Copa México, in its Olympic Edition 2012, is a joint effort between the Mexican Government, the Government of the State of Nayarit and the Mexican Sailing Associations.
