“LE TIGRE” LOCKS UP J/80 NORTH AMERICAN TITLE

Congratulations to the J/80 “Le Tigre” team who dominated the 2011 North American Championship last week!  The team of Glenn Darden (helm), Karl Anderson (trim), Ullman Sails’ Max Skelley (tactics) and Reese Hillard (bow) earned their title with excellent teamwork and strong, consistent finishes throughout the 11-race series.  Powered by Ullman Sails upwind inventory, they scored 5 bullets and three 2nd place finishes, ending the regatta with 29 total points – 11 points ahead of second place!  “Le Tigre” has competed with Ullman Sails since 2006.

Glenn attributes their North American win to good speed and excellent crew work.  “This team has been sailing for two years together and that really paid off.  We got off to a very fast start and that was key to winning the regatta – building a big lead,” Glenn said.  The team’s North American title caps off a stellar racing season for “Le Tigre”.  Some of the major events on their 2011 scorecard include 1st place at Key West Race Week, which was also the J/80 Midwinter Championship.  They took 2nd overall at the Swedish Nationals in preparation for the 2011 J/80 World Championship in Copenhagen, where they finished 5th overall.

The 2011 North American title marks the end of the team’s 2011 season, but they’re already focused on the 2012 J/80 schedule.
